Future of food hackathon

Food is the source of energy, and uniquely necessary for life to survive and thrive. As the global economy shifts, it becomes increasingly important for us to change the current food production and consumption habits towards a more sustainable and thoughtful future. There is no single solution but many, and in many areas all at once. The green economy is based on innovation, and improving the food system requires innovative solutions that have a real impact.

This two-day hackathon is to connect students, food innovators, startup founders and leading industry experts who will brainstorm, come up with and validate new ideas with the potential to transform the food sector. The participants will be invited to offer fresh perspectives on the current issues related to food production, food processing, and consumption, and develop new approaches with the help of digitalization and technology, thus working towards a more sustainable and thoughtful future.

The participants will develop projects within the following four sectors: food waste, circular transition, new food, and digitalization.

Future of Food is the official side-event of TechChill 2020 – tech event in Latvia. Participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland (or the autonomous territories of Åland, Faroe Islands, and Greenland) and the Netherlands will receive a free 2-day General Pass to attend the conference.

Participation is free of charge. Additionally, a limited number of first applicants are eligible to apply for a travel and accommodation grant up to 200 EUR per person. Participants from Tallinn and Vilnius will be offered a pre-arranged bus travel.
